After starting and running Droneflyers.com since 2013, I have decided to step aside and retire from much of my online activities. It's been 22 years since I started my first online properties (hearth.com and others) and I'm going to call that a career (my 3rd or 4th).
Droneflyers.com is being taken on by the great people at Dronelife.com, a group with decades of experience in publishing and who have also run a more commercially orientated site at https://www.dronelife.com
Forums are not part of their expansion plans at the moment and running one would take away from their current core missions.
A big thank you to anyone here who has shared their knowledge and experience. Droneflyers.com will still be very active (more than before) on the reporting and publishing end - so please bookmark our front page.
The parties involved can be contacted easily through their own web sites......

We, and other press and bloggers, have received an invite to a DJI Launch in NYC on July 18.
This thread of for discussion, rumors, guesses...and then finally what actually happens!
Our Blog Article on this Launch Announcement is at:
DJI has announced a new folding and portable drone model - Mavic Air!
It's close to the size of the Spark (small), but offers some great specs - many of them better than the Mavic Pro (all except for range - the range is less, but still 2 miles!).
Here is a link to all the information - at $799 I may just buy one to replace my larger drones!
No word yet on the exact deal - I'll probably be buying one myself!
Deal starts at 10 am July 13-
These sell out quickly so likely they will be gone before 5PM EST.
We are pleased to announce that ALL of our Amazon eBooks will be available FREE for 4 days during the extended Memorial Day Weekend.

(older Phantom book - outdated, but still some good info)
(My Author Page with all three books listed)
The older Phantom book is also available FREE on Smashword - where you can get it in various formats including PDF.
The new Phantom 4 is now available for order at DJI. Here is the info and price link.
Our first thoughts at at this story on the Droneflyers.com Blog:
We are off to CES (the Consumer Electronics Show) to see what is new...
However, today DJI announced a steep price drop on their Phantom 3 Standard and Advanced. The links to the DJI store are below.
If you are ready for your first camera quadcopter - this allows the purchase at a price which is lower than ever.
http://click.dji.com/1yk3KUe99yYzJLOE ---DJI Phantom 3 Standard $499
http://click.dji.com/1yk3KUe9wmU9Bkgz ---DJI Phantom 3 Advanced - $799
DJI has lowered - probably temporarily - the price of the Phantom standards.
It's now $699
This is pretty amazing - the camera and gimbal are worth at least $400 (even as a replacement part) and the battery is worth $15o.
The Remote itself is worth quite a bit. You can't go wrong on this deal. I would have never believed that you could buy a full featured model for $700 at this point in time.
Two of our eBooks are free for downloading from Amazon this weekend - Sept 5 and 6, 2015.
Note - both of these books are for beginners and those relatively new to the hobby. We ask that experts and more experienced pilots don't download them and review because we've had reviews from some which said "This book is only for beginners" (yes, really!).
But, please tell your friends and family who want to learn about or get started in this fascinating hobby!

And the winner is.....well, you decide for yourself.
To my eyes the Phantom 3 pictures are superior.
I hooked the GoPro4 Silver to the base of the Phantom and set it on 12MP and interval (2 sec) shooting. I took 8 pictures from each of the P3 and the GP cameras which represent various views and lighting.
No post processing was done. No special settings were used other than a few small bumps in exposure on the DJI as I was taking the shots.
NOTE: The Phantom 3 camera is on a stable gimbal while the GoPro is hanging off the bottom of the quadcopter. This could make a small difference in the overall stability (and therefore quality) of the pictures.

Here are the photos direct from each camera - and/or a smaller (2000 pixels across) rendition of each.
The entire file of full sized is 50 MB and is at this link (photos are named correctly so you can tell which cam they came from)....
