DJI Phantom - looking thru the lense while in flight

The DJI Phantom is halfway here since it was shipped Thursday. The RX100 is sitting on my desk getting fiddled with (complicated little sucker), a VGE shockmount and black balanced propellers are on the way as well.
Time to consider a system to see what I'll be shooting. At first I thought I'd instinctively know what the shot was but of course that's a dream . Framing the shot is one of the distinguishing factors between good-enough and that's a take.
I've just commenced research on this but hopefully someone will shorten the learning curve for me.
I'd like to look through the lense and would use hdmi out on the rx100... then what?

You are a very brave man (or very wealthy one!) attempting to fly such an expensive and non-crashproof cam!

My RX100 stays in a nice case and I handle it with kid gloves......

ICE knows some about FPV, but my initial advice is to fly something cheaper for a while until you are 100% confident of everything. Older GoPros can be had reasonably and have an analog out for FPV. Same goes for keychain cams - or you can get a complete lightweight setup for FPV (not high quality) at FoxtechFPV.

Just throwing this out as another example, but this:
    http://store.3drobotics.com/products/5-dot-8ghz-wireless-video-transmitter-kit

is a kit which provides FPV. You do need an analog input (output of the camera!) and then a screen or goggles (fatshark, etc.) to view it at ground level.

The camera, I think, needs to be turned on at the ground and in video mode - unless it has multiple outputs where it can provide a continuous analog image when not taking pics. For still pics you either have to arrange some kind of remove trigger or else have a cam with a intervalometer (takes pics every X seconds).

In a few years all this stuff is likely to come together.....

    HDMI and thru the lense

I believe that you need to convert it from HDMI (digital) to analog in order to do it for a hobbyist-type price.

Here is what the broadcast folks use - about 2K and probably short range even then??

The proper goog search would be HDMI to FPV - - but I think it will lead to a similar conclusion. Complete guesses on my part, but the transmission of large volumes of digital data over a long distance in omni-direction probably would be tough...especially without some sort of license. If ICE doesn't chime in here, send him a PM...he's an engineer!

edit - looks like my guess was close enough:

"True HD transmitters are short range and cost thousands of dollars."
"If it's the whole system together, I'm guessing tens of thousands."

I'm going to develop a system for near range thru the lens monitoring of the recording camera's point of view.
Existing analog systems are....well analog and dismal composite video.
Mine will be HD and provide a view to a 7" monitor on the ground with the contents of the viewfinder on the camera.
Range will only be 30m which for my purposes will be sufficient for obtaining accurate framing of the shot.
I'll be sure to post some video using that handy media icon in the toolbar
