What we do
We select and catalog links to events and trends in the fast-growing, world-wide industry of civilian and commercial drones. We look for items that are relevant to system developers, do-it-yourselfers (DIY), owners and operators of unmanned vehicle systems for beneficial uses or applications.
We hope that our website improves public awareness of both the benefits and the risks of the many kinds of unmanned vehicle systems, and helps the industry evolve toward safer systems that are operated with a higher degree of responsibility.
- Just purchased a DJI Phantom or similar quadcopter product? Please read our popular, short tip page!
Unlike many aggregator websites, we look for items that have unique or original content (the item is not a re-post, or a re-post with minimal additional content). We do not use bots to auto-populate the DroneSpeak website’s pages or posts. The one exception is updates to the ad sections that help us continue to bring useful information to you. Our ads are always placed on the lower right of pages, and are never spread as click-bait through our website’s content.
How we do it
We catalog information in several ways, all of which are intended to reduce your search effort:
- The website’s main menu and sub-menus. Sub-menus are revealed when using a tablet, laptop, or desktop (limited sub-menu access with smaller devices).
- Uses (applications of unmanned vehicle systems). We use twelve (12) categories to catalog links and other content.
- The DroneSpeak Vocabulary, a stable hierarchy of 100+ defined terms, starting from a generic Unmanned Vehicle System (UVS) model at the top of the hierarchy.
- For example, you can zoom in to the page about unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or further “down” to the page about UAV autopilot hardware.
- The News. We catalog items in only eight (8) categories, if the item is strongly related to civilian or commercial drone systems.
- For example, see News about competitions to improve civilian drones.
- The UAS topics pages under DIY. Unless you are constantly reading diydrones.com, you will miss many blog posts and discussions because the Blog Posts roll off the front page or the post originators used different tags (or no tags) than you would have used. You can also use the tips on our Searching for DIY Drones information page or our Find civilian drones information page.
- Sometimes we wait to add a DIY Drones blog post or discussion to the DroneSpeak site, to allow time for more comments from DIY Drones members. Comments can be more informative than the original post.
