I was thinking maybe phone or 4G signal can act as primary controller signal (presuming that the drone is smart enough for semi autonomous control) or as a back up. This would of course have a lot of lag and latency but at least the range is practically unlimited. Now if we can only find a long lasting enough power supply. Then you could just program waypoints. The semi autonomous AI is not hard to implement as that pretty much already exist and just need to be upgraded a lot. But the power supply is a huge problem. But i am thinking using 4G signal as a back up for a regular drone even with some latency is still good. I have a Mavic pro which has supposedly one of the best range but still lose signal a lot of time under 1 mile range. I guess the problem is the additional weight for 4G signal trasceiver but a cellphone is so lightweight now that i don't think it would add that much weight. Maybe not bad for a bigger drone like the inspires?
