Hey guys is there a better motor for the jjrc h8d? One of my motors burnt out and I'm looking for better motors for it. Any suggestions?

No there is not. :( There are only brushed (and I'm talking microscopic reeds that were designed in pre-lithium days for Ni-Cads) listed as 6 volt max.
Running them at 100% of 7.4v there lifespan seems to be 20 min. Also be aware that the shut off voltage for the chargers is 8.4v so when they are fresh they are at 8v for a short while. There is a function on the wheel at bottom of controller to set Max % of full power. Set this at 50 to 60% unless you are racing & that should make them last longer. Also when one goes out you replace them all because the rest are ready to go. Search Alibaba for 8.5 x 20mm motors, 24 for $13.07 thats 54 cents each. The JJRC H8D has amazing electronics & range for a $100 beginner toy class. And Brushless, JJRC makes a brushless the X1 $120, no camera & shitty transmitter. That model motor is $13 if you buy 600 on Alibaba. And that doesn't include the special 3 phase for delta windings controllers. You can't have it all for toy prices. Most brushless are in the $300+ range. Did you replace the stock sleeve bearings with 4 x 7 x 2mm ball bearings & oil them, 10 for $2.55. I know all this because after studying for a week I chose the H8D, it arrives tomorrow. I'm willing to live with burning 54 cent motors. The first time a motor goes out I will install 4 pair of micro push & pinch connectors like stereos have. Rick from York, Pa

But it's one hell of a flyer and with it's LNA with a PA RF module the range should be great. Definitely a good choice for those wanting a great flying, acrobatic, and fast (with flight 3 modes available just like the big boys) quadcopter. All for only $120. The best thing going for those who want crazy good performance and long flight times. And with it's standard prop mounting there are many possibilities out there for experimenters. These would be my first choice to try.

I'm confused by that statement. The DYS BE1806 2300KV is well regarded for ~$10 each. The extremely well reviewed Sunnysky X1806S-16 KV2300 motors at ~$14 would also be an excellent choice. Those are single unit prices. Are you saying these standard, readily available motors would not work?

    I like what I see. :)

Hi all, newbie here ;) I have a cheap Jaycar quad, which I love flying. I recently purchased a secondhand JJRC H8D drone as I was still learning and wanted a better, bigger and faster drone. It's been the biggest mistake i've ever made. It is the Potensic version. The previous owner decided to keep the case so just sent it in a plastic bag. The only useable items were the electronics and motor assemblies

I purchased a new transmitter, body, props etc. and after watching (I think all) the reviews on YouTube, purchased the new supported motor/shaft assemblies, bearings, new slightly larger 650 mAh batteries and charger. To date (about 4 months) I've managed around 1 hours flight time! I am continually having to replace the motors! I mean, I run them in on the bed, take off, fly around my room for a couple of minutes and land it. Next outing at the local area, I take off and to date, have not managed to use up a battery. A motor has burnt out in that time. NO, i'm not hovering, I'm flying it around, so plenty of airflow.

I run at around 30 - 40% as this gives better video and is a lot easier to control.
I read above that these are rated at 6 volt, and yes, I get around 7.8 - 8 volt per charge. I also read "Search Alibaba for 8.5 x 20mm motors" Are these motors any better? If not, this thing goes in the trash as JJRC refuse to reply to any complaint emails.

    Thanks in advance,
    Graeme :)

Yup, you have already spent way too money om this old dated quad. Those types of motors will always be problematic and short lived. You need to go with powerful, long lived brushless motors and these days GPS.

Worth peek search youtube for reviews.

Thanks for your reply. I realize it's outdated equipment, but being on a pathetic government pension, I'm limited to what I can afford.
Ideally, I'd love a Mavic Air but that's a dream and as things are, will always be a dream.
I have a super cheap quad which I love. In many aspects it's far better than the H8D which took to the air again yesterday. I'll end up throwing the H8D and possibly buying another of the cheap ones I have.
I love the flying but if worse comes to worse, I'll dump the lot and continue on with my RC race boats.
    Thanks again

I suggest to buy a new one because the motor of that thing is rare in the market.

Those motors are everywhere. Unfortunately the motor battery combination is the fault which JJRC is ignoring. Its quite simple. The battery is 7.4 volt and the motors are rated at 3.7 volt.

Hi Volare what particular tracking device did you use?

I do not represent MMW, you might ask on his website, but since you asked here…
Looks like those replacements on BG are 8.3mm, and MMW are 8.5mm. If it were my quad I’d modify the motor mounts to accept the goodness laminate motors. Dremmel and hot glue are your friend.

The mounts are the new fully braced mounts complete with bearings to replace the bushes.
Do you have a link to those motors?
    Thanks
