hi all, I have a blade glimpse xl drone ( blade qx3), is it possible to set up some kind of live telemetry system so that I can have details such as altitude, gps location, air speed, battery level and heading transmitted to a device on the ground capable of displaying it? If so how would i go about doing this? Many thanks Jamie b
This is the glimpse http://www.bladehelis.com/Glimpse/ This is the qx3 http://www.bladehelis.com/350QX3/ I don't think either of them have the real time telemetry you are looking for.
The model I've got looks exactly the same as the qx3 but it's black bodyed with orange blades and it's called the horizon hobby blade glimpse xl 720p FPV. It isn't listed on horizon Hobbys website I bought it from Maplins, What is I was hoping to be able to purchase is some form of standalone telematics system that I can add to the drone, do you know if that is possible? Also out of the box my drone is limited to around 50 meters of altitude and 100m distance does any know if the qx3 interface can be used with my drone?
Everything I have read says no telemetry - here is a quote from the RCG thread on the QX3: "And once you've progressed past the basics of simple LOS aerial flight... you want more and the 350qx can't really do that. No waypoints, no OSD integration, no telemetry, very limited flight times, short-range receiver system (it's not UHF), extremely limited payload... could a mirrorless camera be carried? That's the next step with any quad - aerial mapping capabilities." With the right TX it may be able to do low battery warnings but I think that's about it. It's a discontinued model at this point.
Always depends on exactly what you want to do with a quadcopter... If your thing is photography and video and telemetry you certainly cannot beat the Phantom 3 line (starts at $499 now - which is pretty amazing). If you want to move toward "go fast" or racing there are other models - blade and RC Logger have some newer stuff either for sale or in the development pipeline. Lots of new stuff at CES (Consumer Electronics Show), but realistically we rarely suggest buying any new model until all the bugs are worked out (at least 3-6 months after others buy and review and fly them). But if it's stable video and photos and telemetry (GPS, etc.) you are after the P3 Standard is great for a low budget or the P3 Advanced ($799) if you have a bit more to spend.
I've had my eye on the phantom 3 pro but it is a lot of money and there is a lot of flyaway stories, I would like something FPV with telematics that is capable of 1080p hd ideally a decent flight time with the ability to do high altitude runs and Fly out of my direct line of sight once I have the correct permits of course.
I was going to answer your concern about flyaways here - but then I decided an editorial/article might be better since it will be read by others and I can point to it. Here, then, is my opinion on the subject. I think it contains the heart of the matter - that is, flyaways or incidents are usually not related to hardware errors and also a function of percentages. Let me know what you think of the article.... https://www.droneflyers.com/2016/01/fear-of-flying-2016-the-last-word-on-drone-flyaways/
