In a surprise move, DJI has announced the termination of production of many of their Phantom quadcopters. Here are the units they claim to have discontinued:
Phantom 3 Pro
Phantom 3 Advanced
Phantom 4 (original)
The communications from DJI do not mention the Phantom 3 Standard, however they do mention this:
“The (DJI) consumer drones will be limited to the Mavic Pro, the Phantom 4 Pro and the Phantom 4 Pro Plus.”
If we take them at their word, this would mean DJI isn’t going to produce models at the very low end of the price range ($400-$700). Given current prices, this would mean:
Time will tell whether DJI sticks to this new path – I suspect they will lower the prices of the Mavic or introduce a more bare-bones model. Or, they may decide to create a bare-bones Phantom 4 or Phantom 3A with a different name – at about $749.
DJI will, of course, continue to support the older models for years to come, so consumers should not have concerns about buying older models of the Phantom 3 or 4. In fact, if you desire one of these models, this may be a good time to pick it up…before they run out of them.
DJI also has good deals on a number of Refurb Phantoms – you can find those at this link: http://bit.ly/2ec04ec
Good News for Mavic Pro direct from DJI Store!
DJI has announced that the Mavic Pro is now available – ONLY direct from the DJI store – for immediate shipment (3-5 days). This is not true with other vendors – Amazon and others (B&H) are backed up quit far. Worse yet, the Chinese New Year holiday starts at the end of January…meaning all production in China, including DJI, shuts down for almost 3 weeks. Bottom line – if you want to get your hands on a DJI Mavic Pro in the next month order at this link with the DJI Worldwide Store.
New Phantoms 4 Pro and Pro+ Available in stock also – The new Phantoms with the 1″ Sony sensors are also in stock for immediate shipment. You can purchase this model with a built-in CrystalSky display (visible in direct sunlight!) or use your phone/ipad, etc.
You can see and purchase either model at this link to the DJI Direct Store.
The discontinued Phantom 3’s – like the Pro – are available at Amazon.
