My name is Alba, and although I'm not so new to flying a quad..I AM new to putting one together. My Pop recently passed, and since I had already begun building the airframe, I decided to more or less dedicate it to my Pop making it bigger and better than planned...I have a reasonable budget...now enter the "RSK Hobby Horse". The airframe is approx. 1m40, with a 1 quart square latch able "food leftover" container for the electronics....what I need help with it....since I have my airframe size and configuration set....what do I need to get this baby in the air (what motors, props, ESC, GPS, batteries, etc.) Any opinions?
Thanks in advance for the advice! Will post progress pics as I get along :)

Not enough information, weight of airframe and intended payload.

Picture or link to airframe too.

Thanks for the reply...I'm posting pic of what I have so far...the airframe is 1m 40 in diameter...at present it weighs about 1 lb.... if I could have a payload of just what a GoPro camera, and 3 axis gimbal...I'll be satisfied..It also needs to be abl e to carry all the rest of the gear I mentioned in my 1st post. The booms are 21mm in diameter, while the "gear" box is about 4"x6"x3". I hope this helps. I have a budget (over a period of the next few months) of about 2k...so I'd like this to be a piece to be proud of and fly. Let me know if you need anymore info. Thanks for your help...it means a lot to get this bird in the air.

Well you have a very large frame for a very small payload. You could go to a 500mm / 600mm diameter and fly that payload.

Personally I am not a fan of PVC pipe for the motor booms, it has a tendency to flex / twist with the forces generated during flight. You can stiffen those up with wood dowels inside and shorting them will help a lot as well.

Below is a cut and past from https://www.droneflyers.com/talk/threads/require-help-finding-the-right-multi-rotor-parts.875/ ... the same setup will get you going along with a good flight controller (APM 2.6 for advanced flights and GPS capability, or a KK2.1 http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__49254__Hobbyking_KK2_1_Multi_rotor_LCD_Flight_Control_Board_With_6050MPU_And_Atmel_644PA.html?gclid=CMbWkMSi7MQCFWlo7AoddW4A3Q )

If you go to a 500mm size then:

    Motors / Prop Combo, http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/..._Motor_and_Propeller_Combo_10_4_5_CW_CCW.html
    Get 4

    ESC, http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...ar_30_Amp_Multi_rotor_Brushless_ESC_2_4S.html
    Get 4

    Battery, first choice http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__16493__ZIPPY_Flightmax_4500mAh_3S1P_45C.html
    second choice http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__11953__Turnigy_nano_tech_3300mah_3S_45_90C_Lipo_Pack.html
Probably best to buy your batteries at a local hobby store though due to restrictions on shipping these. Any good 3 cell battery with at least a 45C rating in the 3000 - 4500 mAh range. Buy 2 or more.....

Radio, again get at a local hobby store.... http://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdId=SPM6630 would be great, but there are less expensive ones.

Around $140.00 from hobby king, and $160.00 for the radio......$300.00 total. US Dollar currency.

You will need a good battery charger, get that from your local hobby store too when you buy the batteries....then you know your getting one that works well with them. These run around $50-100 depending upon features.

There are probably a few extras you will need, like battery hold down straps, servo tape, zip ties, etc.....but this will get you going.

Thanks for the advice Ice. I have done some modifying and here is what I have settled on..1265 mm airframe. There's a reason I want a large airframe, which I'll regale you with later. Suffice it to say that this is the frame I want in the air with ALL the "bells and whistles" I can get on it...does this change the equipment list you sent me? BTW..weight now is around 2lbs..She is painted, and ready to stuff with electronics..
    Thanks. :)

As Long as you don't add any extra payload it should fly, but if you do need more then get bigger motors and propellers along with 40 amp ESC's, Your going to be looking for 12"-15" propellers and larger motors to turn them.

Scratch builds are fun to play with, but it requires experimentation........I have lots of "left over" motors, props, ESC's from "playing around"........but having the extras allows me to play around a lot more too.

Your build looks great BTW, the square tube is a much better choice too!!! Let us know how it goes.
