So I was about to pull the trigger on a Phantom FC40 when the salesperson suggested an alternative. Since I'm new to flying, rather than destroy the $549 Phantom, buy a Blade QX350 (3) RTF AND a Blade Nano (BNF). I can learn on the Nano using the 350 QX radio controls, so that I am comfortable with it when I take out the big bird. Cost was about the same as the FC40. It made sense to me so that's what I bought. Now I have TWO drones but no camera. Hmmm...... (I should add I returned an AR 2.0 because I didn't like the limited range it offered, although it did have two cameras built in. But I wanted to fly R/C not WiFi. )
Well, you can add a camera to the 350 with no problem....so that's not a bad deal. In fact, you can start small by adding inexpensive cams like the Mobius ($75) and then build up from there. You might discover, like me, that you enjoy still photos better than video - in which case you can consider various still cameras (no gimbal needed). Or, you can even upgrade the Blade with the new fancy gimbal and camera. I think you will enjoy those birds - just be careful with the 350 and understand all the modes, etc.
I too am new to all of this. I have a Blade 200 qx and now have a Mobius Wide angle camera on it. The Mobius takes great video and stills, in my opinion. I just sold my blade 180qx that came with the 720 camera and the Mobius is a way better camera, I have purchased a 350 QX3 but am holding off on flying it until I get more proficient with the 200. Grandpa Jake reviewed some small GPS units and I want to add that to the 350 before flying also. Still weighing the options on which gps to buy.
