With all the recent interest in 360º VR technology, cameras like the Ricoh Theta S and multi-cam setups for GoPros and the like, we’re only just beginning to scratch the surface on the latest craze. Most recently, Facebook introduced the ability to view 360 panorama images directly in the page feeds, which not only allows you to upload directly from your cameras or iPhones, but also to create spherical panos that you can capture professionally with your drone and some computer magic and bringing old print panos to new life in the process. So let’s take a look at what’s involved…
I first discovered the P-Squared Quadcharger for the Phantom series last year at InterDrone when I met the developers in the Startup Pavilion. I tested several variations of the Phantom 2 and 3 Quadchargers and knew they were really on to something, so I shared my results in a review last November. Well, they’ve done it again with a brilliant design for the DJI Inspire 1 and Matrice 600 LiPo batteries with the Quadcharger Pro.
The big white Drone Racing tent at the West Entrance to the Maker Faire Bay Area 2016 is drawing huge crowds to see the fantastic drone sports action this year! ASL (Aerial Sports League) has put on various classes and qualifier drone races and competitive battle drone demonstrations, utilizing all DIY sporting drones built by the pilots that fly them!

The DJI Phantom 4 is one of the most advanced consumer drones to hit the market to date. DJI has been a leader in this technology for close to 10 years. They continue to push the boundaries of innovation. One of the most talked about innovations of the P4 is the inclusion of optical sensors. Using a separate VPU (Vision Processing Unit) along with computer vision software, sense and avoid capabilities are now a reality. In this series I’ll dissect the P4 piece by piece and give an in depth analysis of the various systems.
The millions of miles high tension lines in the US are very time consuming and dangerous to inspect. These lines need yearly inspections and currently the only reliable method is via helicopter or very slow moving “line bots.” That’s all about to change in the near future. [Read more…]
Unless you have been under a rock, you will know that DJI has released the Phantom 4. This is a major update tho their flagship product. I have taken it out in the field and tested its latest features. I had to try out sport mode and see how fast it could go. Then I tested the object detection and obstacle avoidance, by using myself as the obstacle!
